I'm Jake, a Midwest native and long-time gamer.
I started gaming at LAN parties, mostly playing DotA, Age of Empires and other RTS games. I built my first PC in high school and gained an interest in First-Person Shooters – namely the Half-Life franchise. As I imagined a future with not-so-crazy technologies and contact with alien worlds, I was drawn more towards sci-fi gaming and media in general, playing games within the Deus Ex, Star Wars, and Mass Effect franchises.
As my professional career began, my engineer perspective drew me into the sandbox genre: Kerbal Space Program, Cities Skylines, Elite Dangerous, and of course Eve Online. I found deeper understanding of connected systems, well-oiled machines, and new worlds ripe for building and destroying, and gained respect for well-crafted universes.
When I’m not ‘jacked in’, you can usually find me out in nature; exploring new trails, gazing at the cosmos, driving some twisties, or enjoying a round of disc golf with friends. I’m also an avid tabletop gamer.
Why I play – Worldbuilding, Community, and Challenge – I want to find something amazing and teach others about it.
